RATP Dev was started in France in 1900 to build the first metro line to cross Paris, and is now one of the largest global transport operators in the world. They manage all kinds of mobility solutions including trams, buses, trains and cable cars; they are a Transport for London (TFL) affiliate, the #1 operator of automated metro systems, working in 13 countries transporting more than 1.5bn passengers per year.
The Need
A UK subsidiary of RATP Dev, London United Busways operate 1100 bus routes across London - with regular, in vehicle, CCTV based data subject access requests and insurance claims, that need to be processed on a regular basis.
Transport networks are capturing more CCTV video in and around their vehicles - with only 50% of passengers still using face masks (i.e. anonymise themselves from cameras); video incident requests are increasing.
Typically, there are 4 external, and 8 - 11 internal cameras on a single deck bus, with upwards of 16 internal cameras on a double - meaning that individuals are captured multiple times across multiple cameras on a single journey, so dealing with DSAR requests for this video is very challenging and requires large amounts of footage to be redacted.
The timeframe for responding to these requests can be very tight - in one case only 3 days were, and the subject had travelled for over an hour on a crowded bus; constantly moving around and so had appeared on every camera. A challenge that could not be managed effectively in the time using normal video editing tools.
The Solution
Martin Davis, CCTV Manager at London United Busways found the Secure Redact website, was able to trial the service directly, and could then sign up to our SaaS service within minutes.
Having previously used a locally installed, video editing application that required heavy manual input, Martin said that:

Martin has turned around all his subject access requests within the allotted time and with high confidence in the quality of redaction.
