Security video redaction for town centre councils
Greater Yarmouth Town Centre Partnership (GYTCP)
Supported by Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Norfolk Police and Norfolk County Council, the GYTCP is a not-for-profit organisation whose main aim is to create and maintain a clean and safe, friendly town centre. They work closely with both independent and national town centre retailers, local authorities and officers to develop events, marketing and security projects - including the CCTV network of the town.
The Situation
Jonathan Newman, Town Centre Manager, and his Information Management Technology team (IMT) manage the CCTV system of Great Yarmouth - known as Community Safety (Great Yarmouth) Ltd.
It consists of 64 cameras around the town, all monitored from a control room, 24hrs a day, 365 days a year.
The team needed to respond quickly to a CCTV based data subject access (within the 30 day deadline), where they needed to blur out all the faces in the videos except the subject.
They tried a few video editing software options previously but had found the process incredibly time consuming and complex; they did not want to risk not responding within the tight timeframe and needed a proven solution to rely on.
The Solution
After a quick search online they were able to sign up to the SaaS service - ‘quick and simple’ and not at an ‘unreasonable cost’.
As first-time users of Secure Redact, they were greatly surprised at the simplicity of the app’s automated and editing functions to achieve their required results quickly.
With some reference to the online help materials, they were able to rapidly anonymise all personal data, except for the individual in question - with plenty of time to reach the deadline.
